Why families should mediate a partition first

Rows of empty seats in a lecture hall

A partition suit can take longer than the relationship it is meant to settle. Mediation offers a quieter route.

Litigation divides property according to law. Mediation allows a family to divide it according to what each member actually needs: the shop to the sibling who runs it, the house to the parent who lives there. Agreements reached this way are more likely to hold.

Mediation is not always possible, but it should almost always be tried first.
